Portrait Displays Debuts Theft Deterrence Asset Control for LCD Displays

Portrait Displays’ Display Tune® Theft Deterrence Plug-In and STMicroelectronics Display Controller Combination Protects Unauthorized Removal of LCD Displays

Portrait Displays, Inc., a global leader in visual enhancement software products for computer displays, today announced Theft Deterrence control for LCD Displays. Designed as a new Plug-In application for Portrait Displays’ Display Tune On-Screen Display (OSD) software, Theft Deterrence will debut on LCD displays equipped with STMicroelectronics display controllers. This solution, jointly developed between Portrait Displays and STMicroelectronics, will provide users with an effective software lock mechanism to deter unauthorized removal of their LCD displays.

Theft Deterrence is enabled by inserting a Personal Identification Number (PIN) that locks the LCD display to the host computer. If the display is moved to a different location or if there is unauthorized removal, Theft Deterrence triggers an “unfavorable view” mode that renders an inverted color ramp or gray scale on the display and makes it impractical to view. The user must enter in the correct PIN on the new host to disable theft. An authorized user can easily disable this view mode and restore the normal display settings by entering the correct PIN. This technology effectively allows the user and/or I.T. Manager to protect valuable LCD display assets deployed across a large enterprise, public institution or even a small office and home.

Portrait Displays’ Theft Deterrence is the latest in a series of Plug-In applications designed for the company’s Display Tune software technology, a powerful tool that provides display manufacturers OSD control features such as monitor settings and color calibration.

“Portrait Displays is very pleased to extend our Display Tune software technology in the area of LCD display asset protection. Working in cooperation with STMicroelectronics has helped enable this functionality,” stated J. Michael James, CEO and President of Portrait Displays, Inc. “This technology will allow all display manufacturers to provide an elegant solution for adjusting, optimizing and managing their displays, as well as protecting their customers’ investment.”
