Calibrite Display Pro HL and Display Plus HL Colorimeter Compatibility with Calman

While Calman can interface with the Calibrite Display Pro HL and Display Plus HL colorimeters, there are important limitations to consider, especially when calibrating displays with excellent low luminance performance (such as OLED and QD-OLED panels).

Compatibility

  • Official Support:
    • Calman does not officially support the Calibrite Display Pro HL and Display Plus HL meters. Calibration success with these devices cannot be guaranteed.
  • Refund Policy:
    • Refunds are not available for Calman software due to performance issues related to third-party meters.

Meter Performance Considerations

  • These meters advertise high peak luminance capabilities (up to 10,000 nits).
  • However, achieving high peak luminance often reduces low-light sensitivity, which is essential for accurate calibration near black levels.
  • This limitation is particularly relevant for workflows requiring precise low-light measurements, such as calibrating LG OLEDs.

User Guidance

  • Testing Your Meter:
    • If you already own a Calibrite Display Pro HL or Display Plus HL, you are welcome to test it with Calman. Many users choose to try their existing equipment first.
  • Upgrade Option:
    • If you encounter limitations and decide to upgrade, bundle pricing for the C6 HDR5000 is available for up to 90 days after your Calman software purchase.

Why Low-Light Performance Matters

Calman is designed for highly precise calibration workflows, including multipoint grayscale and 1D LUT calibrations. These workflows require accurate measurements near black. The process typically involves:

  1. Calman sends a test pattern to your pattern generator.
  2. The generator displays the pattern on your screen.
  3. The colorimeter takes a measurement.
  4. The measurement data is sent back to Calman for processing.

If the meter cannot read low-light patterns, it will return an error. This prevents Calman from generating accurate corrections, causing calibration to fail due to the meter’s limitations, not Calman’s.

Recommended Solution: C6 HDR5000

The C6 HDR5000 probe was developed in partnership with our manufacturing partner to address these challenges. It offers:

  • Low-light performance comparable to the C6 HDR2000
  • Extended measurement range up to 5,000 nits
  • Reliable results across SDR, HDR, and Dolby Vision workflows
